SSL SL 542 4 band EQ
The SL 542's are the SSL 5000 console version of the beloved SSL E series EQ known as the E242 eq or blackknob eq. The blackknob eq is the most famous SSL EQ.
The first generation EQ, the E-02 "Brown" was very mid-agressive and grungy. But SSL answered the critics of the E-02 / SL 502 by designing the E242 "black" EQ, which most studio engineers agree is the punchiest, most musical SSL EQ, especially for rock, pop, hip-hop and R&B.
I own both the 502 (brownknob eq) and the 542 (blackknob), and I absolutely prefer the 542’s. In the context of a mix these eq’s are an amazing tool second to none.
